Volosophy v1.0 Is Live & Volos Moves Toward DVT

Volosophy September Update

September felt like a turning point for us. We shipped the first official version of Volosophy, and the next Volos DVT build moved closer to the machine we ultimately want to put on court.

There’s still a lot to improve, but more players can now use what we’ve been building—and we’re learning from every session.

Volosophy App v1.0 is live on iOS

Until now, Rally Clipping was only available to our beta testers. With v1.0 live on iOS, anyone can download the app and turn their match footage into rally clips. We’re also continuing to prepare the Android release.

Shipping v1.0 doesn’t mean we think the app is finished. It means we can stop relying on

controlled tests and start learning from how players actually use it.

The beta showed us just how different tennis videos can be. Different phones, formats, camera positions, lighting conditions, and courts all affect the analysis.

We could have waited until every feature on our roadmap was ready. Instead, we focused first on the less exciting—but more important—parts of the experience: making sure an analysis can finish successfully and that you’re never left guessing when something goes wrong.

Rather than waiting for every feature to be ready, we focused on making the core experience more reliable. Here’s what we’ve improved.

Turning beta feedback into a more reliable experience

Most of September’s App work came straight from beta feedback.

What it means to the you:

  • We added a Help Us Improve section so you can send feedback directly to us—and yes, we read every message.

  • We updated the Credits page. Credits campaigns are coming soon, and you’ll be able to redeem your credits for Volosophy swag.

One of the less visible—but important—things we learned was that analysis failures used to all look alike — stuck at shot detection, no explanation. Now the app tells you what actually went wrong.

We'’ve now improved how the App handles these situations. If something goes wrong, you’ll get a clear result instead of being left with a session stuck in an unclear state.

These changes may not look like major new features, but they make Rally Clipping much more reliable with the videos people actually record on real courts.

Volos: getting ready for DVT

For the Volos ball machine, September was about preparing the next DVT build.

EVT testing showed us where the design needed to be stronger, more precise, and easier to use. We’re carrying those lessons directly into the DVT build:

  • Some screws worked could loose after 200,000 serves, so we added anti-loosening measures throughout the machine to improve long-term durability.

  • We also changed the rod end bearing. It costs us a little more, but we think it’s worth it: the increased precision should give you more accurate and consistent control over serving angles.

  • The machine is now around 3 inches—shorter, making the overall design more compact.

  • We’ve also redesigned the ball-drop mechanism to significantly reduce the chance of ball jams (literally not a single jam in our last 10,000 tests!).

  • The Industrial Design is now largely finalized and is currently being tested. We’re keeping it under wraps for a little longer, but we hope we can finally show it to you in our next update.

DVT timeline update

We planned to have every DVT part in hand by the end of September. That date is moving later, because we changed the circuit design and some parts are taking longer to produce.

Although the parts are arriving later than we hoped the upside is more time for part-level testing before final assembly, which lowers the risk of problems once full-machine testing begins.

DVT testing is planned to begin in October and is expected to take around six weeks. We expect to have a machine that is close to the final production version by the end of this year, and we’ll keep you updated as testing progresses.

What’s next

For Volosophy app, we’re continuing to move the Android release forward and make Rally Clipping more stable across different types of real-world footage.

In the next version, we’re also improving the vision system behind Rally Clipping so it can identify the right moments and edit highlight clips more accurately. We also want to give you richer statistics and analysis that are genuinely useful—not simply more numbers on a screen.

For Volos, the next step is to receive the remaining DVT parts, assemble the new prototypes, and prove that these design improvements hold up through structural and long-duration durability testing. This time we aim for half a million consecutive serves.

The goal isn’t just to finish another prototype. It’s to build a machine that lets you spend less time dealing with the machine and more time playing tennis.

See you on the court!
